Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie (originally Angelina Jolie Voight) is an American actress and director best known for her sexual edginess, sex appeal and her humanitarian work. Jolie, the daughter and actor Jon Voight, was raised in New York. After her childhood, she moved to Los Angeles, where she was the character of the mental patient in Girl, interrupted (1999). After being at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute two years, she then began her studies at Beverly Hills High School. Later, she studied acting at New York University. Jolie also performed in theatre productions, and was a model for music videos. It was in Hackers (1995) when Jolie first met Jonny Lee Miller, a British actor (married in 1996 and divorced in 1999). It was not a huge success, and so were several other films. In 1997, however, Jolie garnered much attention portraying the wife of Alabama's segregationist governor in the television film George Wallace, and she was later awarded a Golden Globe Award for her portrayal. The following year , she portrayed a supermodel struggling with drug addiction in the HBO film Gia which was rewarded with multiple awards as well as the Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award. After her Oscar-winning performance from Girl, Interrupted, Jolie made an appearance in Pushing Tin, a comedy with John Cusack, Billy Bob Thornton and Billy Bob Thornton. Then, in 2003, she filed for divorce. She was the girlfriend of the carjacker (Nicolas Cage) in Gone in Sixty Seconds (2000) and later adopting the British accent and learned street fighting and kickboxing to play the title roles in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003). In 2004, she played the mother of Alexander the Great in Oliver Stone's Alexander as well as starred alongside Gwyneth Paltrow and Jude Law in Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, a science-fiction thriller set in 1930s New York City. Both films failed in terms of box-office revenue, however Jolie's Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005) was successful. Jolie played a character pretending to be a normal homewife during the making of the movie. Brad Pitt became her partner.
